This latest book by Professor Georgios I. Mantzaridis is volume ten in the series Orthodoxy in Dialogue with the Modern World, published by Alexander Press.\n\nIn his Preface to the volume Innovation and Tradition, Archimendrite Ephraim, Abbot of the Holy Monastery of Vatopedi on Mt. Athos in Greece, writes the following: “The Fathers of the Church, the bearers of the Tradition, did not come to know God intellectually, but through personal experience ‘suffered the divine things,’ and for this very reason were able to truly innovate in every one of their times. The Fathers were not conservatives nor fundamentalists, but people living in the Tradition, in the grace of the Holy Spirit, and thus they possessed continually the divine inspiration to proclaim the Gospel authentically, in their own time, as always timely and new. Tradition, the true Tradition, not a traditionalism attached to the formalities and the letter of the law, is always innovative.”\n\nGeorgios I. Mantzaridis was born in Thessaloniki in 1935. After earning his degree in theology at the Aristotle University, he continued with postgraduate studies in Strassburg and Munich. In 1964, he accepted a permanent teaching position in the School of Theology at Aristotle University, where he held the chair of Moral Theology and Christian Sociology and is now professor emeritus
